Food enzymes are key to great digestion and happy guts. In It Takes Guts to Be Happy!, I write about the myth that some of us have “too much” acid in our stomachs, which causes acid reflux. WRONG! Most of us do not make enough hydrochloric acid to digest our foods which is making us sick, fat, and depressed.
Once you start taking food enzymes with your meals, you will wonder how you ever lived without them. You will experience the wonderful feeling of having energy after you eat, instead of wanting to take a nap. Food enzymes have the exact same enzymes that your mouth, throat, and stomach make, so they are completely natural and safe to use. They will not stop your own digestive system from working, but help it work better and be happier, so that you are happier. If the gut is not happy, we are not happy!
.
Why don’t we make enough digestive enzymes to digest our food? When we were hunter-gatherers, thousands of years ago, most of the food we ate was raw. Occasionally, our ancestors found eggs or caught a bird or a fish; but, most of the time; they survived on greens, nuts, seeds, and fruit. These raw foods were packed with enzymes. Cooking destroys enzymes, and most of us eat cooked foods. Even those of us who drink our vegetable juices and eat lots of salad still consume some cooked foods; and this means we’re using our own enzymes up in the process.
.
And what about processed foods, fried foods, fake fats, and sugar? Disasters for the gut! These non-foods use up enormous amounts of enzymes to move through our digestive tract—and much of it is never digested, but stored in our colons.
.
Stress destroys enzymes, and we can’t completely avoid stress. We can do things to release it, such as meditate, exercise, get enough sleep … and take our enzymes.
