Hydration Equals Summer Happiness

Hydration is key to health and happiness during the summer. However, the question is not are you drinking water, but are you absorbing water?

Fifteen years ago I landed in the ER with symptoms of sweats, shakes, and blurry vision. Two days before, I had run 10-miles and drank plenty of water both before and after. Yet, the ER doctor said I was so electrolyte-efficient that I was close to a seizure. Although I was hydrated, I had peed all the fluids I consumed out.

Forty years ago, when I was training for my Health Educator’s certification at Hippocrates Health Institute, we learned that dehydration is a factor in every illness and disease—including aging. So, I became an A+ water drinker. The missing piece that could have cost me my life—and had already dried my skin and added lines to my face—was electrolytes.

Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electrical charge when dissolved into the blood. The blood electrolytes—sodium, potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate—help regulate nerve and muscle function as well as maintain acid-base and water-hydration balance.



Electrolyte Energy for Hydration

Electrolytes spark cell function. They stimulate muscle contractions, including those that keep the heart beating. Low electrolyte levels may impair every bodily function, such as blood clotting, muscle contractions, acid balance, and fluid regulation. Your heart is a muscle, which means electrolytes help regulate your heartbeat.

With this knowledge, I tried every electrolyte on the market, and some did the trick. Unfortunately, even though I avoided sugary options, other brands were often loaded with stevia and had an unpleasant aftertaste. Therefore, I decided to create a simple and easy electrolyte, and I’m so excited to share it with you today.
