Dreading the Holidays? Prepare Your Gut for the Onslaught of Holiday Treats
Is your memory of previous Thanksgivings a that your belly was more stuffed than the turkey?
Do fear you will not be able to slip on your favorite dress, or zip your pants after feasting? To gain weight at any time of year can be depressing. However, food addictions surge during the holidays.
How to Avoid Sweets, Weight Gain & Build Holiday Gut Health
How it starts. A friend or family offers a gift of sweets and you feel obliged to consume. Later, a neighbor brings by their favorite dish (macaroni & cheese?) and your resolve weakens, but you taste “just one bite. This habit may grow until New Year’s Eve, when your metabolism is sluggish and you realize your party outfits no longer fit.
If you are prioritizing your gut health, and afraid to “blow it” over the holidays, the It Takes Guts to Do the Holidays, Holiday Gut Health Guide, is introduced in this blog. If on my newsletter list, you’ll receive a free download of this guide, as my gift to you this season. However, in this blog are practical tips to revel in holiday spirit without sacrificing your health, waistline, or budget.
Prepare for a No-Bloat Holiday by Building Holiday Gut Health
1. Establish a No-Bloat Holiday
This concept begins with using digestive enzymes after every protein meal. Stock up on Enzyme Energy now. Since my shipping department is not Amazon, we do not ship overnight for free. I get so many SOS’s during holidays asking for product delivery ASAP. Although we do the best we can, an extra cost for overnight shipping is necessary. Consequently, it’s best to order now to keep from running out—not wait until invited to an unexpected family potluck.
2. Practice Food Combining
Consuming proteins and carbohydrates separately can boost energy; plus stabilize your weight. In fact, you may even lose a few pounds by practicing orderly food coming. Food combining looks like this: on Thanksgiving, enjoy a salad, all those devious roasted low-carb veggies (carrots, beets, parsnips, peas, green beans) and the turkey. Then, two hours later, devour a delicious gluten-free pumpkin pie or sweet potato with butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
In other words, no need to choose between a protein and carbohydrate feast. The goal is to eat food categories separately. If serving soup, time for that to digest before the entrees are served. Soup dilutes precious digestive enzymes, and which can lead to bloat and constipation.
Order extra Happy Gut Cleanse along with Enzyme Energy. Travel constipation is the worst! Airplane travel increases the chance for constipation due to dehydration. Yet, car travel does much the same thing. Many people avoid drinking liquids during long car rides. While saving you an inconvenient stop at a less-than-sterile gas station, inadequate liquid also leads to constipation.
3. Travel Like a Champ
There is another side to this. Those who experience loose bowels often deal with this inconvenience even more during holidays. Stress, schedule changes. and uncharted cuisine can send a colicky colon to the porcelain throne— not once, but again and again. If you struggle with that, I have a solution. Happy Gut Cleanse is a colon balancer and regular once-a-day doses can help keep your gut calm and stable.
4. Practice Deep Breathing
Even in the best of times holidays can produce a stress reaction. Take a moment to stop and ask yourself, “Am I panting, or am I breathing?” Then, take slow, deep breaths until your nervous system is reset. This saves your sanity and will reduce cortisol and consequently save your belly from increasing during this busy season.
5. Say NO
It is not impolite to speak up about your food preferences, your commitment to your diet and needs. When it comes to your gut conditions, do you ever wonder, “Why me?”
I certainly have. Although I know things happen for a reason, I believe my fairy godmothers and angels allowed my gut issues for me learn to speak up! Many of my clients are over-achievers as well as people pleasers. People pleasers say “yes” in response to requests—whether they have the energy or emotional bandwidth. Loved by all, and yet, they struggle with gut issues. Their job—and maybe yours too—is to finally prioritize themselves.

Summary of How to Enjoy the Gift of Holiday Gut Health
To build a strong defense, I suggest you stock up on tools which fortify gut health. Add Protein Power and All Day Energy—healthy nutritious options for long travel days, cooking days, and taking-care-of-the kids and grandkid days.
I consume more protein drinks during holidays than any other time. That is because as a preventative, I enjoy a protein drink before a holiday event, to stop temptation of consuming something detrimental for my body because I might feel like I’m “starving”—or blood sugar has crashed.
