Body Cleansing for Sustainable, Healthy Weight Loss
Tonight, one of the participants in the Happy Gut Makeover asked me a weight-loss question, “Can I eat an unlimited amount of all the YES foods on the cleanse and still lose weight?” No, you cannot. Gobbling handfuls of nuts, ghee-laden rye toast, and cashew cream on sliced bananas will nourish and strengthen your body, but your thighs will not shrink. If weight loss is a priority for you, here are the keys to sliding lithely into your jeans:
Protein, Protein, Protein!
Consuming 50-100 grams of protein daily automatically decreases your appetite for carbs and sweets. Remember that protein powder has about 20 grams of protein; 3-4 ounces of salmon has 30. A delicious cup of lentil soup includes 20 grams; 1/4 cup hemp and sunflower seeds sprinkled on your salad packs a whopping 30 grams.
Heal Your Adrenal Glands for Healthy Weight Loss
One of the most important actions for healing the adrenals is to eat breakfast. Be sure that you eat breakfast before leaving home. If you cannot stand the thought of eggs or a slice of turkey, start your day with a simple protein shake. (If you put fruit in it, limit it to 1/4 cup of berries.) Although some famous diets recommend beginning the day with fruit, my clients (like most of the American public) experience blood sugar and adrenal issues. Weight loss can not be sustained if your endocrine system and the adrenals are out of whack. The Happy-Gut Makeover Cleanse is designed to heal your adrenals, the most vital parts of your endocrine system. That takes plenty of B vitamins, amino acids, and natural fats—just what protein contains. If you experience blood sugar issues, the fruit is too sugary to start your day. It can set up a 10 am crash and a later craving for bagels and coffee.
What’s for Lunch?
For lunch, I recommend a salad with olive oil and lemon dressing, avocado slices, and some lean protein. You might also consider a cup of split pea soup and steamed veggies. If you work outside your home, treat yourself to buying a thermos, you will not need to use the office microwave. Splurge on a fresh green vegetable juice cocktail as a late afternoon pick-me-up. You will soon become delightfully accustomed to the bolt of energy you will receive from those live enzymes and minerals.
Food Combining Eliminates Bloat & More
Properly combining your foods is key for weight loss. Eat proteins with veggies; carbs with veggies; fruit all by itself. Even a slimming meal such as fresh grilled ahi on greens can cause weight gain and bloat if you eat it with rice or quinoa. And feast on those luscious berries at the end of the day, or in the late afternoon for a snack—not five minutes after dinner.
Stay Hydrated and Take Your Food Enzymes
Water, water, and more water! Squeeze some lemon into your water-glass or bottle and sip all day to hydrate your body and clear your head. It is not the best idea to gulp water or liquid down while you eat—that dilutes your food enzymes. Remember to take enzymes at every substantial meal. Undigested food will make you fat!
Move Your Body
When moving your body to create weight loss, it is important to find a physical activity that you love! Going to the gym and working out might not be your thing. Dance lessons, tennis, hiking, biking, or walking are some activities that offer a way to move your body, but also give you some fun and relaxation.
